This bathroom, in Abel’s own house, sits under an eyebrow dormer. Anyone who knows the furniture maker George Nakashima will recognize the inspiration. His studio outside New Hope, Pennsylvania, is called the Conoid, from “cone,” a nod to its sweeping arc, and the arc became the theme here.
The counter is a cherry flitch. Abel repaired a large split using two handmade maple butterfly splices, and built the drawers to follow the compound angle of the cabinet face.
